Overview
Microsoft Research New York City (MSR NYC) is seeking Research Interns in Machine Learning and AI — working alongside world-class researchers on reinforcement learning for language models, the science of deep learning, post-training, reasoning, and test-time scaling.
Over a 12-week internship, you'll be paired with a mentor, collaborate with fellow doctoral researchers, present findings, and contribute to the vibrant MSR NYC research community. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.
Key Requirements & Critical Rules
- Degree: Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science or related STEM field.
- On-site: Must be physically located at the Microsoft NYC worksite for the full internship duration.
- Research areas: RL for LLMs, science of deep learning, post-training, reasoning, test-time scaling — theoretical and empirical backgrounds welcome.
- Application materials: Minimum 2 reference letters, cover letter, and relevant work/research samples. Alert referees in advance.
- Preferred: Experience with PyTorch, Hugging Face Transformers, and vLLM.
- Program: 12-week research internship with mentor pairing, presentations, and community collaboration.
