Overview
General Motors is hiring an R&D AI/ML Intern for Fall 2026 in Mountain View — applying advanced AI, machine learning, and computational methods to vehicle development, predictive engineering, safety, energy/propulsion systems, and next-generation mobility research.
You'll conduct collaborative research combining data, physics-based understanding, and modern AI/ML techniques — with potential for external publications and intellectual property. Work spans concept generation through implementation and validation with GM R&D technical leaders.
Key Requirements & Critical Rules
- Citizenship: U.S. citizenship required — federal government contract provision; do not apply if you need any GM immigration sponsorship.
- Degree: Currently enrolled in a PhD program in CS, AI/ML, Data Science, EE, ME, Robotics, Applied Mathematics, or related field.
- Work mode: Hybrid in Mountain View — 3+ days/week in office.
- Start date: September 7, 2026.
- Skills: Strong AI/ML, statistical modeling, and computational methods; Python and relevant scientific computing languages.
- Work scope: Research/experiments, model/tool development, large dataset analysis, technology evaluation, documentation and presentations.
- Preferred: AI/ML applied to physical systems; physics-based dynamic modeling; LLMs, generative AI, physics-informed modeling; neurosymbolic/causal/explainable AI; vehicle/sensor/simulation datasets.
- Outcomes: Work may lead to external publications and/or intellectual property.
