Google SWE Intern BS Summer 2027 | US Early Consideration

Overview

This Google Careers posting is for early consideration for Summer 2027 SWE internships in the United States. The same applications reopen in the regular fall cycle if you’re not ready yet. Recruiting may place you in Software Engineering or Site Reliability Engineering based on your resume.

As a SWE intern you’ll own a project critical to Google’s needs — designing, testing, deploying, and maintaining software on scalable distributed systems. SRE interns focus on reliability and performance at massive scale (automation, monitoring, keeping critical systems healthy). Program extras include personal/professional development, an executive speaker series, and community-building.

Key Requirements

• Minimum: Pursuing a Bachelor’s (or related technical post-secondary) focused on software development/tech fields; coding in two or more general-purpose languages (e.g. C, C++, Java, JavaScript, Python); data structures or algorithms experience (school or outside).
• Preferred: Attending a US degree program and available full-time ~12 weeks outside term; returning to studies after the internship; coding in three+ of C/C++/C#/Java/JS/Go/Python; exposure to AI/ML, infra, web, Unix/Linux, mobile, distributed systems, IR/NLP, networking, large systems, or security.
• Location rule: Must be in the United States for the entire internship; this posting is US-only (apply separately on careers.google.com for other countries).
• Process: Rolling review; responses can take 90+ days; if no word in ~3 months on that role, they likely moved on (recruiters may still match you elsewhere).
• Day-to-day: Team collaboration; automate with scripts; analyze problems and apply CS coursework to real Google challenges.
